Fate of Pesticides in the
Environment

A comprehensive presentation of the processes that affect pesticides after application.  The programs are presented in a manner that will be understandable to those with little background in pesticide science and still informative for the more advanced.  The programs are useful educational tools for presenting the transfer and degradation processes that affect pesticides.

Program 1
Introduction to pesticides, where and how they are used, including
examples of the pests controlled by herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, nematicides, acaricides, and rodenticides.
Discussion of the transfer processes that influence pesticide effectiveness and movement in the environment.  Examples of the processes presented are: physical drift, volatilization, and leaching.

Program 2
Discussion of the degradation processes that affect all pesticides.  Examples include: photodegradation, microbial degradation, chemical degradation, and plant or animal metabolism.
Presentation of how the transfer and degradation processes interact with the pesticide and affect the ultimate fate of the chemical in the environment.
Discussion of the factors used to predict the persistence and movement of pesticides both before and after application.
